Disciples women transcend barriers
during Asia trip
By Heidi Bright Parales, DisciplesWorld
contributing writer
(12/26/05) — Olivia Bryan sat down at a piano with a
Korean girl who was playing Chopsticks. For the next
five to 10 minutes, Bryan joined in, wordlessly playing
the left side of the piano, completing the song and
thinking about the irony of how she had learned to eat
with chopsticks on this trip to Asia.
“God was laughing with that play on words,” recalled the
associate pastor of Providence Christian Church
(Disciples of Christ) in Lexington, Ky.
“It was the moment it all came together for me. That was
by far my most powerful moment.”
